Top 170 BIM Adopters

This is an old news item but I never posted on it. It discusses the number of BIM licenses each firm has. My firm (HMC Architects) is number 161. But since the survey we actually have 40 seats now, which would move us up to 135 or so. This appears to be the first time a survey like this was done by Building Design and Construction. There is no survey in the archives for last year.

Of the 320 AEC firms that participated in the survey, 83% report having at least one BIM seat license in house, half have more than 30 seats, and nearly a quarter (23%) have 100-plus seats. In total, the Giants (their term for large firms) hold 28,174 BIM seats, with the average firm having 106 seats.

Survey – BIM Functionalities and LEED

I received this info from Deke Smith of buildingSMART Alliance…

Deke states… “I am excited that scholars are now beginning to do the research that we need to move our profession forward and I will continue to do all I can to support those efforts. Wei is also helping to re-establish the buildingSMART International chapter in China. My appreciation goes out to him for this effort also.”

The following survey is from Mr. Wei Wu, a PhD Candidate and LEED®-AP at the Rinker School of Building Construction, University of Florida.

This survey intends to investigate the possibility of using current BIM authoring tools to facilitate the LEED®-NC certification (LEED®-NC 2009) process, with emphasis on the data extraction and information exchange during the project delivery. As a proof of concept, the result of this survey will be incorporated into the author’s doctoral dissertation on BIM-for-Sustainability in more depth.

The survey will take around 30 minutes.

The survey is about the possible utilization of BIM functionalities to streamline the LEED certification process:

Here are some additional survey results…

The first question below is about the average size of the project team that firms are using for BIM development. This confirms the gneral feeling evidence that teams can and are actually smaller for BIM projects than traditional CAD.

When asked how long their firms had been using BIM, the results show that most are on track with progressing along the BIM adoption path.

Revit and NavisWorks are the overwhelming winners when firms purchase tools for BIM.

Now for the real question that I am looking for… how much of yuour work is dont in BIM? The numbers may be lower than you expect.
